![]() I have a 2016 TP5 VM on a 2016 TP5 Hyper-V host connected to a internal virtual switch, the VM acquires a IPv4 address via DHCP and can resolve and ping internal addresses and hostnames. Plain Courier text also indicates command syntax and system output, for example, prompts and system messages. EDIT: I dropped the default gateway from the DHCP server during a configuration change. One of the main reasons for the PING: Transmission Failed General Failure error is incorrect TCP/IP and DNS settings. Try a Ipconfig /flushdns Netsh int ip reset This will clear stored dns information and reset the tcp/ip stack. If you have an ip address ping 8.8.8.8 If you can do that chances are it is a dns issue. Either way, looking at your config, it seems that your pool is configured for stateful DHCP, while the interface is configured for stateless. Type Ping localhost That will ping your local host. Maxage 0 holdcnt 0 proto stp maxaddr 100 timeout 1200 Hello, I have started having an issue with a headless PC that I use for a windows server and remote desktop in about a week ago the ethernet kept dropping for a couple of seconds then coming back and repeating every 30 seconds to a couple of minutes and it is only happening on that PC constantly and I am losing my mind trying to troubleshoot and if anyone would know of any that I can try. Hello Deepak, my bad, it was in the original post already. But when I ping its IPv4 address, it responds just fine. When I try to ping a specific Win 08 server by host name, I get an IPv6 address and get General failure. To properly set up a static IP address, follow the steps below. What makes this problem interesting is that this client is the only node on the network that seems to be experiencing this proglem. Similarly, an improperly set static IP address can also cause the error and block your internet access. I can take the PC and connect directly to Ethernet if required* is showing when pinging the local network group, you may need to set up a static IP. *"Make sure your Mac's ethernet adapter is allowed to respond to ping for that last Windows command." Apologies, I don't know how to do this-I don't have an Ethernet connection, only Wi-Fi has been set up. IP address (from Network in System Preferences) General troubleshooting approach to "PING: Transmit failed.Last login: Sun Mar 28 10:07:50 on ~ % ip address If I were you I would try to read VM's NIC and then try the same static IP config (providing it is valid one) - may well fix your issue too.īeyond that it could be something more obscure with more difficult fix. ![]() There root cause was missing default gateway. Have you tried explicitly ping using IPv4 or IPv6?.Are you sure that your VM adapater has default gateway specified?.Are you sure there is no duplicate IPs in your network?.Are you sure static IP config is valid and complete (default gateway etc.)?.There is not so much moving parts here: type of your network adapter, connectivity type assigned for VM and IP configuration are the main parts. When you removed the default gateway windows didn´t know what to do with the packet so it sends a general failure message.
