This subreddit already have some posts about the amazing results of using hydrocortisone, but this sub should promote it so much more.Hydrocortisone cream is what I personally used to great effect. Injection is best, but might be difficult to get. nobody understands the pain of hell's itch untill they go through it. the medicine will kick in and the peppermint oil will help. get out of the shower and put peppermint oil on. it'll numb your nerves and your body and stop the itching in 30-45 minutes. ⭐ Hydrocortisone provides almost instant relief! ⭐ but I strongly recommend to take gabapentin if you have access to it.Antihistamine prevents/stops it from getting worse.Hot showers (burning hot) provides a temporary relief that allows you to think straight. And OMFG the hydrocortisone worked like magic! The itching stopped within minutes and the rash was gone after a night! Hypothesisīased on my anecdotal experience, my hypothesis is that Hell's Itch is acute sun allergy (photosensitive dermatitis/solar urticaria) and should be treated like it. He provided me with antihistamine (which previously also got me through the nights with Hell's Itch) and hydrocortisone. A pharmacist said that it a clear case of sun allergy (photosensitive dermatitis/solar urticaria). It is like random stabbing with tiny needles which itches but is not nearly as bad as the true Hell's Itch. It felt similar to Hell's Itch but furtunately with less severe symptoms. However even though I spent a lot of time in the shade I still got an itchy rash. This year I went to Spain and have been extra careful with the sun. The second time I felt really stupid, but at least this time I was better prepared to limit the the physical and mental torture (I usually explain people that it is like Chinese water torture, but with burning needles covered in ants instead of water) The first time involved panicking and wrong treatments until I stumbled on this subreddit and learned about the counter-intuitive hot showers. I have been unlucky/stupid enough to have had Hell's Itch two times. TLDR I believe that Hell's Itch is the acute form of sun allergy (photosensitive dermatitis) and should be treated like it. The mod is also not very active here, so feel free to use the report button if there are any issues. The sub may not be very active, (especially in the winter), but every post counts. The purpose of this subreddit is to hopefully become a nexus for those that have experienced this dermal oddity, share information, studies, news, and remedies. It typically happens with a mild sunburns well away from blistering, however more severe burns can result in an itch lasting almost a week. This is not sun poisoning, nor is it an allergic reaction. The condition can last anywhere from 12 to 48 hours, where the first day is always the worst, and is gone as if it had never shown up. It can be fierce enough to cause muscle spasms, but in most cases, the experience is best described as truly maddening. Reliably 2-3 days after a reasonably mild (non-blistering) sun burn. A swarm of fire ants biting you from the inside.Īcute, unimaginable, itching that occurs in short, intense waves. Described as having razor sharp sand paper rubbing beneath your skin.
